Install your NXTL eSIM — step by step & fixes

No tech skills needed. Pick a way to add your eSIM below, do a quick checklist after it installs, then use the fixes list if mobile data acts up. Everything is written for travellers and nomads — plain language only.

Start here. Sign in to your NXTL account and open My eSIMs at nxtlsim.com/my-account/nxtl-esims/. Each eSIM shows a QR code, an Activate eSIM button, and a Manual activation section with SM-DP+ address and Activation code ready to copy if you prefer to enter the plan by hand.

Choose how you want to install

Tap “Activate eSIM”

Easiest on the phone you’ll travel with — one tap and follow the prompts. Jump to steps →

Scan the QR code

Great when the QR is on another screen, in your email, or right in your dashboard. Jump to steps →

Type the code by hand

For weak cameras or finicky lounges — copy SM-DP+ address and Activation code from My eSIMs (separate copy buttons). Jump to steps →

MethodYou needIn short
Activate eSIM That phone, Wi‑Fi or data, My eSIMs open in a normal browser. Tap the button and say yes to the install screens — same job as the QR, minus the camera.
QR code QR visible on another device, on your dashboard, in your email, or printed. Use the phone’s own camera or “Add eSIM” flow — skip random QR apps that only open websites.
Type by hand The Manual activation fields on your eSIM in My eSIMs. Copy each line into the matching box on the phone (Type the code).
Activate eSIM not doing anything? Use Safari, Chrome, or Samsung Internet — not the tiny browser inside Instagram or Facebook. Choose “Open in browser”, then tap again. Still stuck? Use Scan QR or Type the code — they install the same eSIM.
iPhone or Android — what happens when you tap Activate
  • iPhone — You should get Apple’s “add mobile plan” / Add eSIM flow. Confirm if it asks. Needs a model that supports eSIM and a reasonably recent iOS.
  • Android — You’ll usually land in Google or your maker’s Add eSIM / Download SIM screen. Pixels and Galaxy phones are the smoothest; menus just have different names.

A — Tap “Activate eSIM”

Do this on the phone that will keep the eSIM, with internet (Wi‑Fi is fine).

  1. Open My eSIMs in Safari, Chrome, or Samsung Internet — if you opened the shop from a social app, switch to “Open in browser” first.
  2. Pick your eSIM and tap Activate eSIM.
  3. Follow the install wizard. Give the plan a name you’ll recognise (“NXTL trip”, etc.).
  4. Then go to After installing.

B — Scan the QR code

  1. Show the QR from your NXTL dashboard (My eSIMs), from an email we sent, or print it if that’s easier.
  2. On the phone, open Camera (iPhone) or your camera / Add eSIM path (Android).
  3. Point at the QR until you see a banner like “Cellular plan” / “Add eSIM” and tap it.
  4. Finish the prompts. If the camera won’t bite, try brighter screen, zoom, or type the code instead.

C — Type the activation details by hand

Use this when scanning or the Activate button isn’t practical. In My eSIMs, open your eSIM and scroll to Manual activation. Tap Copy next to each line and paste into the field with the same name on the phone:

  • SM-DP+ address — subscription manager address (often looks like a hostname).
  • Activation code — matching ID / activation string (letters and numbers).

Android (typical path)

  1. SettingsNetwork & internet or Connections (Samsung).
  2. Open SIMs / Mobile networkAdd eSIM / Download a SIM.
  3. Choose Enter manually (labels vary by manufacturer).
  4. Paste SM-DP+ address and Activation code from the dashboard. Confirm and download.

Lost in menus? Search Settings for eSIM or Add SIM.

iPhone

  1. SettingsCellular or Mobile Service.
  2. Add eSIMEnter details manually.
  3. Fill SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code from the dashboard copies.
  4. Finish and name the plan.

After installing — quick checks

  • Mobile / cellular data is on for your NXTL eSIM.
  • Data roaming is on for that eSIM when you’re abroad.
  • Dual-SIM? Pick the NXTL eSIM for mobile data — not only calls.
  • Airplane mode is off (or toggle once).
  • Wait a few minutes the first time — registration can lag behind the “done” screen.

Troubleshooting — try in order

Most people stop after the first couple. After-install checks first, then work down this list.

1 · Restart the phone
Full power off, wait ~10 seconds, on again. Fixes a surprising share of “no data” right after install or after a flight.
2 · Airplane mode
On for ~10 seconds, then off — nudges the modem to reconnect.
3 · Right network name
With manual network selection, pick a name that matches NXTL’s Data Pricing for that country.
4 · Account & plan
In My eSIMs: not paused, balance OK, and you’re on a carrier your plan allows.
5 · Still “setting up”
On Wi‑Fi wait 5–15 minutes, restart once, retry mobile data.
6 · QR trouble
Try Activate eSIM or manual entry. Already fully installed this profile once? You can’t usually add the same one again — use Exchange or support for a fresh eSIM.
7 · No “Add eSIM” at all
Old phone, locked handset, or region without eSIM — update the OS or check with whoever sold the phone.
8 · Weak signal / SOS only
Move outside, try later, or turn automatic network back on if you were forcing one name.
9 · Wi‑Fi works, mobile doesn’t
Wrong SIM selected for data, roaming off, or eSIM data toggle off — see After installing.
10 · Work phone with IT locks
eSIM options may be greyed out — IT has to allow it or use a personal device.

Quick questions

Is the Activate button safe?

Yes. It’s the same install your phone expects from a carrier QR — just offered as a tap. Use a real browser (Safari, Chrome, Samsung Internet). If a social app blocks it, open My eSIMs in the browser and try again, or use QR / manual.

Can I use the same QR on two phones?

Generally no after a successful install — the eSIM stays on that device. New phone? Use Exchange if you have it, or ask support for a new profile.

Do I need APN settings?

Most travellers don’t. Only change what NXTL support tells you.

Still stuck? Use live chat on nxtlsim.com when you see it, or [email protected]. Include phone model, iOS/Android version, and what you tried (restart, airplane toggle, etc.).

Exact Settings names vary by manufacturer — search “eSIM” in Settings if menus look different.
