For NXTL, “no expiry” refers to standard unused prepaid account balance: it remains available for future eligible usage while your account stays active, subject to the service terms. It does not guarantee permanent service availability, unchanged prices or that a deleted eSIM can be installed again.
This NXTL guide explains the different things that can stay valid between trips, so you can check the right condition before buying or returning to an account.
Five things to separate when an eSIM says “no expiry”
An eSIM offer can involve an installed profile, a package, account credit and a promotion. They do different jobs, and their conditions need separate checks.
| Item | What it represents | What to verify before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard prepaid balance | Money available for eligible usage | Balance-validity rule and account conditions |
| Fixed data package | An allowance with a defined coverage area | Package end date, activation trigger and treatment of unused data |
| Installed eSIM profile | The device’s connection profile | Reuse, device changes and reinstallation policy |
| Account | Access to the service and its management tools | Whether it remains accessible and eligible for service |
| Promotional credit or rewards | Value granted under an offer or rewards programme | The specific offer’s redemption and validity conditions |
Keeping the profile on your phone does not extend an expired package. Equally, turning a profile off does not itself mean that the money in an account has disappeared. Identify the item involved before deciding whether you need another purchase.
What NXTL’s balance rule actually says
NXTL’s Terms and Conditions state that standard account balance does not expire unless expressly stated otherwise. They also allow account suspension, restriction or closure for specified reasons, including long-term inactivity where permitted by law.
The published wording does not specify a fixed inactivity interval. It would therefore be misleading to turn it into a promise that logging in, using data or topping up every particular number of months guarantees continued account access.
The practical interpretation is to keep standard unused balance for later eligible usage while the account stays active. After a long absence, check account access before departure and ask support if the status is unclear. You do not need to assume a package countdown, but you should still check the account you plan to use.
This qualification matters because “balance has no fixed expiry” and “the service must remain available forever” are different promises. Check the current product and account conditions when returning after a long break.
What happens after a trip ends?
Suppose you finish a journey with $6.00 of standard unused prepaid balance. You can leave that money in your NXTL account for future eligible use while the account remains active. There is no need to invent a new country package simply because your itinerary has ended.
Switch the phone’s mobile-data choice back to your normal line when appropriate. If you want NXTL idle, turn its line off and stop hotspot sharing. Leaving it selected for mobile data in supported coverage can allow background traffic to continue spending balance.
Keep the profile installed. NXTL’s account and device guidance says to contact support before moving or deleting it; do not assume an old QR code or automatic phone-transfer feature can reinstall the same profile. Turning the line off is the useful distinction for a temporary break.
You can review and add balance through the account described in the top-up guide. A top-up funds that account; it does not require another QR installation. Check what remains before adding more than you need.
Retained money does not reserve a number of gigabytes
Balance is monetary value. The amount of data it can buy depends on the destination and network rate when you use it.
For a deliberately hypothetical example, $6.00 at $0.75/GB would fund 8 GB: $6.00 ÷ $0.75 = 8. At $1.50/GB, the same $6.00 would fund 4 GB. Neither rate is a current NXTL quotation; the example isolates the difference between retained money and reserved data.
Before your next journey, use the live pricing directory to check the relevant operators. Do not convert a balance into a promised allowance using an old screenshot or the rate from your previous country. The connected network determines the charge, and even networks in one destination can have different prices.
Keep promotional value separate from standard balance
A welcome offer, referral reward or token balance needs its own check. The standard prepaid-balance statement should not be copied across to every incentive you see in an account.
NXTL describes its reward system on the Rewards page, with separate information for the referral programme. Read the applicable redemption and offer conditions before treating an incentive as immediately spendable data balance. A token figure on an app screen and a prepaid cash balance answer different questions.
If a promotion’s validity is not clear, ask support about that specific credit. Do not top up or consume data solely on the assumption that doing so will preserve a promotion; first establish whether that action is required or relevant.
A return-trip checklist
- Sign in before leaving. Use the account connected to your original purchase and confirm that you can see the balance and eSIM.
- Find the installed profile. Check your phone’s SIM settings. If it is missing or the phone has changed, ask support about the correct next step.
- Check the new destination. Confirm current coverage and rates; last year’s successful trip is not a current coverage check.
- Review spending controls. A usage limit can pause data even when the account still holds money. Check its status in your account.
- Review connection settings. Follow the setup guide for the NXTL data line, roaming and any profile-specific APN requirement.
- Arrange a way to get help. Keep another connection available for account access or a top-up if mobile data is unavailable.
A short arrival test is useful: briefly disconnect Wi-Fi and load a lightweight page with NXTL selected. That consumes a small amount of paid data; it confirms more than simply seeing the profile’s name in Settings.
Questions about keeping an eSIM between trips
Will topping up guarantee that my account stays active forever?
Do not treat a top-up as a lifetime guarantee. The published terms do not define a fixed top-up schedule that guarantees account status. If your account has been unused for a long time, verify access and ask about any restriction before paying again.
If my balance is present but data will not connect, has it expired?
Not necessarily. The data line, roaming setting, coverage, APN or a spending limit may explain the failure. Keep the profile installed and follow the connection checks before buying a replacement.
Can I demand the unused balance back because I am not travelling?
Retained prepaid balance is not the same as refundable cash. Check the applicable purchase and refund conditions and contact support about your circumstances; “no expiry” does not itself promise a refund.
Before the next trip, check your account and current destination rates. If you are choosing NXTL for the first time, review the Global eSIM offer with the balance and account rules together.
